Treworgey Cottages

An overview of our on-site facilities

From heated outdoor swimming pool to horse riding, from tennis to soft play, Treworgey has everything you need right here on-site for a perfect family holiday for children of all ages, or an escape for adults that can be both relaxing and action-packed.

Your Private Garden

Every cottage has its own private garden and we take particular pleasure in them, having reclaimed them from a wilderness and replanted them ourselves. Every year we plant more. In early spring an avalanche of snowdrops and daffodils is followed by roses, flowering shrubs, and colourful flowerbeds throughout the summer. Wisteria, honeysuckle and roses climb the cottage walls.

In the summer months your garden is equipped with good quality garden furniture, sun umbrella and a barbecue.  Bird seed is available in the Information Room.

Outdoor Pool

The heated outdoor pool sits in a spectacular setting with views down the valley towards the Looe River and is a sheltered and gardened sun trap. The pool is heated to 28°C/83°F+, weather permitting and is usually open from 15th May to 10th September, and at other times according to the weather (and at our discretion). Most years we have kept the pool open well into October.

Comfortable sun loungers and tables and chairs offer space to soak up the sun by the pool. For young children there is a paddling pool beside the main pool, and a playpen is provided to keep the very young and inquisitive out of the pool while parents swim. The pool is popular even in the rain, because it is so warm. Parents can comfortably sit and watch children swim from the warmth of the summer house, which has changing facilities, floats, a playpen and a loo. There is also an honesty-box fridge and freezer where you can help yourselves to drinks and delicious local ice-cream – a real treat!

For swimming out of our pool’s season, the Lux Park Leisure Centre indoor pool in Liskeard (15 mins) is popular and has a water flume for the kids.

Spa and Pampering

You can enjoy beautiful views from our wonderful spa pool (like a hot tub, but with a full pumped filtration system instead of sitting water with chemicals in it like most hot tubs!), situated within a terraced garden just a few yards from the swimming pool.  Our luxurious new larch and slate pool house has a theraputic infrared sauna as well as seating area, shower and changing rooms.  The spa pool and sauna are open all year excluding 5th Jan - 5th Feb.

You can book heavenly massages, manicures and other spa treatments with our resident therapist Cheryl in our new luxurious spa treatments room.  Call or text Cheryl on 07958181190 to book.

See our spa page for a list of treatments and prices.

Riding School

We have a licensed riding school at Treworgey. We offer riding lessons, and some supervised hacking through the beautiful countryside around Treworgey. Riding is available every weekday morning until lunchtime. Lessons are taken in the 60m x 20m outdoor area which has an all weather surface. Beginners are warmly welcomed, as are the more experienced who want training in dressage and showjumping.

For more detailed information on riding at Treworgey, please visit the riding page of this website.

We have an all-weather hard surfaced tennis court – again, with a lovely view. You are welcome to borrow rackets and balls from the Information Room at any time (please just put them back again afterwards!) – or of course to bring your own if you prefer.

Indoor and Outdoor Play

Our playroom has a fantastic hand-painted mural, well equipped wendy house and a selection of big and small toys, table tennis and pool. Near the tennis court we also have our ‘indoor beach’ – great if you experience some wet weather. This is a big sandy space with a fantastic indoor playground: climbing wall, climbing frame, sand pulley system, sand digger, giant lego and a net for volley or badminton.

Outside, we have a playground with a log climbing frame, swing, slide and ropes, a sandpit with mechanical systems for moving sand and water, huge basket swing, stepping logs, climbing wall and a Wendy House. Parents, sitting at the garden bench in the playground, can watch over youngsters and at the same time chat and enjoy the fantastic view.

At the Information Room you can also borrow DVDs and board games to take back to the comfort of your cottage, tennis and badminton rackets to take to the court or the indoor beach, and wildlife quizzes and sketch maps for walks around the farm.

And of course, there is the swimming pool, the riding school and our friendly animals to enjoy too.

Friendly Animals

We have a small menagerie of friendly animals for you to meet and animal feed-ups happen at 8.30am every weekday in the school holidays – and everyone is welcome to join in! (If you are here outside the holidays and would like to be involved in animal feeding-times please just come and see us.)

Our animals include Demelza the Kune Kune pig (who loves apples and carrots and a scratch on the tummy) and her best friend Florence the tame (bottle-reared) sheep, the ducks, chickens and Bert the guinea fowl (who love bread, and who may even lay an egg or two for you), Elsa, Trouble and Strife the goats (who love a friendly stroke), our pet guinea-pigs and rabbits (who love to be hand-fed fresh grass), Smokey and Bandit the stable cats (who will follow you home if you’re too nice to them!), a small flock of Jacob sheep and, in spring time, their very sweet brown and white lambs, and of course Bee, our little Lakeland Terrier-Poodle cross who you will see scampering about and sunbathing outside the office.

We also have about twenty horses and ponies. ‘About twenty’ because, apart from our riding school, we also have our own small eventing and breeding yard here. Each year we usually have at least one foal – some guests have even seen a foal born here!

Explore the Farm

Treworgey is set amid some of the most beautiful countryside Cornwall and the Southwest can offer and our own farm is no exception. There is a wealth of wildlife on Treworgey’s 150 acres and some super walks. We frequently see badgers and foxes only a short distance from the cottages, and numerous species of birds. We have sketch maps to guide you on walks around the farm (right from your garden gate) where you will find views of the river and out to sea all to yourselves. Here on the farm you’ll find space for children big and little alike to run through a field, fly a kite, build dams in a stream, climb trees or picnic in a wood. In season you will find blackberries, elderflower, hazelnuts, chestnuts, field mushrooms and sloes ripe for picking around the farm.

The farm’s colour scene changes throughout the year. Spring usually comes a lot earlier in Cornwall! By the end of January we have Treworgey’s flowers: snowdrops. Thousands of them line the banks, paths and streams, left over from the days when Treworgey was a small flower farm, sending snowdrops and daffodils ‘up country’ to Covent Garden. The early double daffodils come in February. In March and April we have our own daffodils that we plant each year and camellias and rhododendrons - not to mention the abundance of wild flowers (including our magnificent bluebell wood) for which Cornwall is so well known. By mid-summer, rambling and climbing roses abound, and many are still flowering well into November.

Coombe Kitchen

If you would like to take the catering out of self-catering why not let Jane and Hanna do the shopping, chopping and cooking – home-cooked suppers, cakes and afternoon teas can be delivered to your cottage most days from Coombe Kitchen.

Local Produce stall

We have an honesty-box local produce stall beside the Information Room where you can pick up useful items as well as local produce and treats.

Please see the food page for more.

We have a free-standing telescope with electronic tracking for those who like gadgets and with a set of fantastic lenses for viewing the moon or stars.  A great way to make the most of the fantastic dark skies that you can enjoy at Treworgey.  To borrow the telescope, please ask at the office and we will bring it round to your cottage.

Information Room & WiFi

Sit on the sofa by the log burner with a cuppa while you browse - this isn't your every day information room!

Our Information Room is stacked with books, maps, timetables, leaflets and personal recommendations about the area. You’ll also find books on Cornwall and local wildlife, as well as magazines to peruse by the fire.

The DVD library, tennis rackets, badminton rackets and board games can also be borrowed from here at any time and we have Treworgey postcards, a small selection of ‘eco’ products (such as washing powder) and bird seed for sale with an honesty box system. Next door you’ll find Janice’s local produce stall stacked with jams, chutneys, her own vegetables and meat and sometimes even her own home-made cakes and ice cream – again available for you to help yourselves and use the honesty box 24 hours a day.

The Info Room has WiFi, as do all of the cottages. Please bear in mind that we are a long way from the exchange with a rural internet speed.
