Here's our pick of the best events and activities going on in our area this summer, from June to August. 

We've got family-friendly theatre shows, a food festival or a doggy day out and more!  We're already booked in for Matilda at Sterts and have road-tested the Super Worm trail at Cardinham (amazing food at the cafe!).  We hope you find something to inspire you!

The Big Doggy Day Out - Royal Cornwall Showground - 14th August


28th May- 5th June- Half-Term at Eden at The Eden Project, PL24 2SG (45 mins)

A week-long celebration of bees, nature and communities, ending with Eden’s very own big lunch celebrations.

31st May until 2nd June- Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical Jr. at The Sterts Theatre, PL14 5AZ (25 mins)

Rebellion is nigh in Matilda JR., a gleefully witty ode to the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination! Roald Dahl’s world famous tale is brought to life in that fantastic family musical.


31st May- 5th June – May Half-Term Jubilee Party at Anthony National Trust, PL11 2QA (30 mins)

Join in with the regal festivities at Anthony this May half-term. There’s lots to see and do including a raising the flag ceremony, jubilee party bags and a picnic garden party.


Throughout June, July and August - Superworm Trail at Cardinham Woods, PL30 4AL (30mins)

Join superworm and friends on their brand-new adventure at Cardinham woods. Activity packs are £3.50 from the Rangers Hut.


9th June until 11th June – Royal Cornwall Show at The Royal Cornwall Showground, PL27 7JE (45 mins)

There’s something for every member of the family at the Royal Cornwall Show. It’s the county’s biggest annual event and is brim-full of exhibits and activities which offer so much in the way of entertainment, competition, information, shopping and all that’s best in food and farming.

2nd June – Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at Wheal Martyn, PL26 8XG (40 mins)

Find all the crown’s in the outdoor treasure hunt and enjoy a yummy afternoon tea on the café terrace.


2nd June-5th June – Cornwall Street Food Festival at The Idyllic Barrowfields Spot, TR7 2RZ (50 mins)

This June Jubilee Weekend, Street Food Warehouse is coming to Newquay for the first Cornwall Street Food Festival.

19th  June 11am- 4pm–Family Fun Day at Wheal Martyn, PL26 8XG (40 mins)

Enjoy outdoor games, hoopla, hit the target, beanbag toss, play your cards right and  hopscotch!


26th  June 10.30am- 4pm– Caribbean Family Fun Day at Mount Edgcumbe Country Park, PL10 1HZ (40 mins)

Whether you are a toddler, teen or young at heart, there will be something for everyone at this event with a difference, including laid back reggae and rhythmic ska music from Marley White and atmospheric sounds from the Real Steel pan drum band.


23rd-24th July 10.30am- 4pm– Ice Cream and Bubbles Festival at Mount Edgcumbe Country Park, PL10 1HZ (40 mins)

A huge selection of ice-creams from an array of ice-cream sellers with every flavour you could wish for (including vegan, doggy and gluten free) Plus Ice Cream desserts, waffles and crepes!
As well as lots of entertainment.


23rd July- 4th September- Go wild with Beano at Eden at The Eden Project, PL24 2SG (45 mins)

Join then for an action- packed summer programme and help Dennis and friends save Eden from the dreaded CO2-Zilla!


9th August – Alice in Wonderland at The Sterts Theatre, PL14 5AZ (25 mins)

Come along and meet some of the strangest and most peculiar characters, including the mysterious Cheshire Cat, the Wacky Mad Hatter and the foul-tempered Queen of Hearts! Filled with live music and puppetry, it's the perfect show for the whole family!


9th August – Squashbox Theatre Curious Creatures at The Sterts Theatre, PL14 5AZ (25 mins)

Using puppets, comedy, slapstick and live music - plus lots of amazing natural history facts - Squashbox Theatre will uncover the mysteries of the animal kingdom.


13th August- Rapunzel at The Sterts Theatre, PL14 5AZ (25 mins)

With magic and mayhem throughout and a chance to meet the characters after the show, this is one hair-raising adventure your family won’t want to miss.


14th August –The Big Doggy Day Out Summer Fete at The Royal Cornwall Showground, PL27 7JE (45 mins)

The Doggy Day Out Summer Fete also features workshops, talks and so much more, making this a jam-packed day for dogs and humans of all ages to enjoy!


18th August- Squashbox Theatre Stones & Bones at The Sterts Theatre, PL14 5AZ (25 mins)

Find out all about archaeology and fossils, say hello to one of your stone-age ancestors, hear stories of giants and wizards, see a volcano erupting before your very eyes, and maybe even glimpse a dinosaur or two…


23rd  August- The Tale of Peter Rabbit at The Sterts Theatre, PL14 5AZ (25 mins)

Join Peter and Benjamin on their hair-raising adventures in this enchanting adaptation of the much loved Beatrix Potter classic.


25th August- Peter Pan at The Sterts Theatre, PL14 5AZ (25 mins)

Peter Pan was first performed by Illyria in 1997. It has been performed outdoors many times since by many different companies. But Illyria’s 2022 production will be the first to feature REAL flying!

30th August- Squashbox Theatre Tales from the Trees at The Sterts Theatre, PL14 5AZ (25 mins)

‘Tales from the Trees’ is a terrific tangle of puppetry, storytelling, live music and comedy, with a theme that embraces natural history, folklore and ecology.
